18th Anniversary of the “Unabomber” Arrest
This April marks the 18th anniversary of the Unabomber arrest back in April 1996. As we get further away from the tragedy of 3 killed and 24 injured by his mail bombs over those years, there is a continued need for vigilance.
Ted Kaczynski was not the first to take advantage of our trust in the mail. The earliest recorded mail bomb was from 1764, and was described in the diary of Danish historian and official Bolle Willum Luxdorph.
“Colonel Poulsen residing at Børglum abbey was sent by mail a box. When he opens it, therein is to be found gunpowder and a firelock which sets fire unto it, so he became very injured.”
